Next Steps

The final design phase will conclude in 2024 with construction projected to begin in 2025. The bridge will be closed to traffic throughout the duration of construction. It is estimated that this full closure will last for two construction seasons or approximately 24 months. Alternative detour routes will include I-35, I-635 and I-70.

Public Information Open HouseThe Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) invites you to attend a Public Meeting to discuss the 18th Street Bridge Replacement Project. Built in 1959, the 18th Street Bridge has been an integral part of the community.
KDOT and the Project Team are moving forward with the bridge replacement process and the project has now entered the preliminary design phase. Attend the public meeting to learn more about the project updates, process and schedule. Representatives from KDOT and the Project Team will be available to answer your questions. 
The public is welcome anytime from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will not be a formal presentation. There will also be a virtual option accessible at www.18thstreetbridgekck.com.
